Help SkyTruth identify drilling and fracking activity in the Marcellus Shale region
FrackFinder is a crowd-sourced “SkyTruthing” project to find, map and track all the fracking sites (drilling for natural gas using hydraulic fracturing) in the Marcellus Shale region of the northeastern United States.
SkyTruth is using satellite and aerial imagery to identify fracking sites, track activity on those sites from 2005 through 2013, and map the extent of the visible surface impact from every frack site we can see. We estimate that there are well over 100,000 sites nation-wide, and that’s an awful lot of imagery to look at. So we’re asking volunteers, like you, to help us look at all these images and classify what you see.
FrackFinder is an open-source software project. Help yourself to the code and offer your suggestions on how we can improve it.
